Maharashtra Government Announces MHADA Lottery in New Housing Policy, But Mumbai Not Included! – RD News Network

In a surprising move,
the Maharashtra
government has unveiled a new housing policy that includes the much-awaited
MHADA lottery for affordable housing. However, what’s raising eyebrows across
the state is the exclusion of Mumbai — the financial capital and the city most
in need of affordable housing solutions.
According to
officials, the new housing policy aims to provide affordable homes to lower and
middle-income groups across various districts of Maharashtra through the MHADA
lottery system. Cities like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Aurangabad are set to
benefit from this initiative. The state government claims this move is intended
to ease the urban housing crisis and promote decentralized development.
The MHADA lottery has
long been a gateway for thousands of families to own a home at a reasonable
price. However, the exclusion of Mumbai — a city with one of the highest real
estate prices in the country — has sparked concern among housing activists and
aspiring homeowners.
Speaking to RD News
Network, housing experts stated that excluding Mumbai from the new scheme could
further widen the affordability gap and push the dream of owning a home even
farther for the city’s middle class.
The state government,
however, clarified that a separate policy may soon be announced specifically
for Mumbai, citing complex land acquisition issues and ongoing redevelopment
projects as reasons for its exclusion from the current plan.
While the announcement
is a step forward in addressing the state’s housing needs, Mumbaikars will have
to wait longer for similar opportunities. As per RD News Network
sources, housing demand in Mumbai continues to grow, and a targeted policy
could be in the works soon.
